How do you know if you need and electrical panel upgrade? Here are a few signs and tips to look for that may help in your decision process!
1. If your house was built before 1990, then there is a possibility that you have a Federal Pacific Panel (much like the one shown above) that has been deemed unsafe by many insurance companies, and home inspectors across the U.S. These particular panels have been associated with arc faults and electrical fires that have cost homeowners a lot of money, not to mention, headaches when it comes to electrical reliability. The solution? Updated electrical panels and associated breakers will ensure that your home and family is safe! Arc fault and Ground Fault breakers installed in new panels will get your service up to code.
2. Are your light flashing, or flickering on and off? Are your receptacle outlets cutting in and out...then your service may be the culprit. Have your system checked by a certified/licensed electrician.
3. If you are constantly having to reset your circuit breakers, or experience "tripping," then it may be time to have your system inspected by a licensed electrician.
4. Lastly, if your panel cover, or housing has become rusted, or otherwise exposed to the elements, then it may be time to upgrade your panel before a major outage, or catastrophe leaves you in the dark! Have your system inspected, because if the outside looks grungy, then quit possibly the inside looks the same!
These are just a few tips from personal experience, and are by no means exhaustive! If your worried about your system, then don't hesitate, call a fully licensed electrician to inspect your system and put your mind at ease!
